The opportunity
Project Overview
Sapaso is a Fin-Tech Startup in Cologne, which provides a complete solution for subscription-models. They handle the payment processing, dunning and receivables management as well as we offer the analysis of payment flows and accounting.
Sapaso founders discovered that there is no good alternatives for companies which are selling offline products and have recurring payments. So, they wanted to see if they can provide online payment services for that kind of companies.
They had the first version of Sapaso made by an external company that has been in a process for 1.5 year almost. With that prototype Sapaso has tested the market to see if the idea is viable, to attract investors and to show to the world “We have an idea and we could prove that it works”, added Steit Slings, CTO at Sapaso. Usually, in a startup you have this prototype is being used to prove the concept, but it’s not a production-ready system which built for expansion and scalability.
“We have up-and-down scenarios of traffic and payments, so we need to be scalable and adaptable and our entire system needs to be built in a such manner. So, I’ve made a new architecture design of a modern web-kind based application where we’ve got API back-end and HTML5 Angular front-end”, so we can have scalability, says Steit.

What we did
Do what you good at - buy the rest
“We are very good at a payment services and providing this services to our customers. But we are not a development company, so for development part we started looking for partners who can help us to built this application. We have not been interested in short term option, we wanted to have a long term relationships with developers who are used to our system and work with it long time.”, explains Steit.
The outcome
Having a team remote or local is not a big issue
“I think one of the most important thing you need for a remote team is to prepare your task in a correct manner. But that also something you need to do for a local team also.”, says Steit. ‘We are gradually got used to that we do not need everybody on site. It was a process from "we need people inside of the office”, then it was hard to find them and we started to think about alternatives. As I had a big experience in working with remote teams we have investigated this and talked to different suppliers and multiple locations.”, tells Steit.
